Sweet Corn 8 for $ l 00 Cantaloupe Delicious Pro Play it safe World of religions more than a hobby for teacher Over the years, Bentley has de- veloped an eight-volume set of books which cutline the belief systems of Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, Judaisin, Christianity, Islam, Baha'i i, Unitarianism, and Zoroastrianism. The provincial government printed the books in 1981 and made. them available to teachers. But the government subsequently closed its Ministry of Education print services. Said Bentley, “By this time I was getting requests from people across Canada for sets of the books. I gave them to the province without royalties but I re- tained the copyright. When they said they weren’t going to reprini, I approached various publishers, but they weren’t interested. So I set up my own publishing com- pany, Heritage Press, and had them printed here in North Van."” The books have since been added to the textbook lists of school systems in Manitoba, Saskat- chewan and Alberta. Bentley will soon be releasing the combined works in paperback form. ’ Bentley approached the task of gatherizg information on the various religions by study and con- tact with people active in the various faiths. ‘‘There are, such wonderful contact people here in Vancouver. Looking for speakers to come to talk to my kids (stu- dents), I met some super people. I got my information from what they said to my kids. I would go pick them up, drive them to my kids, and drive them home. I was trapped in the car with them for two hours, and that’s when I got most of my education,” he said. The former merchant seaman and longtime teacher took up the cause of religious enlightenment to combat racism .and_ inter-ethnic misunderstanding.
