VSO gives free concert * om Page 36 Catalani’s opera La Want fia that became a worldwide nit a few years ago when it was featured in the French film Diva, and two dancers from Ballet British Columbia — Charlie Evans and David MacGillivray — will be seen in Faure’s Pavane, especia!ly choreographed for them by Reid Anderson. Commenting on the open house concert, VSO executive director Edward Oscapella said: ‘‘This, as far as I know, is the first time the VSO has offered such an opportu- nity to the public. But we are aware that the concept.is an annual —- and successful -- feature of many symphony orchestras across North America.’’ “It is, essentially, an introduc- tory project meant to increase the profile of the VSO. Many of the people who come to the concert may be either casual concert-goers or those who have never heard the VSO in the Orpheum,”’ he said. The whole tone of the event will be friendly, Oscapella promised, demonstrating how accessible the VSO is to all kinds of people. Ticket information for the con- cert will be broadcast on QM/FM at 103.5 on the radio dial. For in- formation call the VSO at 875- 1611.
