Construction begins
on retirement home

CONSTRUCTION began recently
for West Vancouver's first private
retirement home — Hollyburn
House.

Robin Cordwell, president of
Laing Properties, the project
developers, said the home offers
seniors an alternative to provin-
cially-funded retiremest homes.

Some of the services to be of-
fered to residents include a weekly
maid service, use of a mini-bus
service, organized social activities
and access to @ registered nurse for
medical emergencies.

Cordwell said he hopes to use
Hollyburn House as a model and
serve other communities in Van-
couver and elsewhere.

The building was designed by
Neale Staniszkis Doll Architects,
and is located on Marine Drive be-
tween 20th and 2Ist streets.

Since establishing a marketing
office last year in West Vancouver,
Hollyburn House has received over
200 potential applicants, said Cor-
dwell.

Mayor Derrick Humphreys was
on hand for the ground-breaking
ceremony.
