first joint reaches the end of
the threads. Point your
finger down, and if it
touches oil, then the level is
fine. If you can’t touch oil,
add some SAE 90 oil until
you can touch it. Don't
forget to put the plug back
in.

Also, you can check the
emergency brake cable for
wear and if it needs greasing.
If it does, any kind of thick
grease will do.

You might also want to
check around the edge of the
pan on the automatic trans-
mission for leaks, which
could result in serious
damage.

By now, the oil should all
be drained. Take a clean
cloth and wipe around the
oil plug hole as well as the
area where the oil filter sits.
Put a little clean grease on
your finger and wipe it onto
the circular rubber gasket on
the filter and then carefully
screw it in. Turn it to the
tightness of the strength of
one hand. No more or you
will never get it off again.
Now, replace the crankcase
oil plug, and using your box
end, tighten it quite snug.
but don't overdo it.

Crawl out from under the
car and look under the front
fenders to see if you missed
any grease nipples on the
upper ball joints

While under the hood you
can check a number of
important items Undo the
screw on the top. of the
aircleaner and take out the
filter: Wath an ordinary work
light (“try to shine the hight
through the filter If it necds
replacing. the hight wall not
shine through, or very little
light

Adjust the tightness to about
%” play. Lf you have trouble
holding the belt tight enough
while tightening the bolt, use
a long screwdriver or pry bar
to keep the belt at the proper
tension.

Take the lid off the master
cylinder. If it is obviously
low, add some brake fluid.

Next, check the level of
the power steering fluid.
Usually, the cap has a small
built in dipstick. Add power
steering fluid, if necessary.

It is now time to check the
radiator, but with caution. If
the engine is still warm,
chances are there will still be
pressure in the cooling
system. Never take a
radiator cap off a _ hot
radiator or you will get
