Brummet, has announced
today that the B.C. Home
Program is proceeding on
schedule and first payments
will be in home owners’ bank
accounts on November 29.
The minister said, “By the
end of October we had
received more than 13,000
applications and the great
majority of these should
make the first payment run
oi November 29. Each home
‘owner will be receiving a
letter and confirmation of
benefits as processing of

their application is com-
pleted. The first of these
letters will be going out
around November 15.

“If there is a problem with
approving an application,
the applicant will be con-
tacted by phone or letter,
but in most cases this is not
necessary, and the only
letter the applicant gets will
be with the confirmation of
benefits.”

Payments are to be made
by clectronic fund transfer,
direct into cach applicant's
account. Minister of
Finance, Hugh Curtis, has
announced that the
Canadian Imperial Bank of
Commerce has been selected
as the clearing bank for
these transfers following a
tender call.

FATAL ACCIDENT which occurred
Monday on Marine Drive at Park Royal was
the second at the same location this year. An
80-year-old North Vancouver woman was
struck by a Datsun 280Z driven by a 29-year-
old North Van woman, bringing to five the
number of pedestrians struck at exactly the
same location since January. Demands are
mounting for the municipality to install some
kind of crossing facilities on the road bet-
ween the two malls, which is particularly
wide and busy, such as a tunnel. Until such
time as measures are taken to improve
pedestrian safety there, West Van police are
asking people to ensure they cross Marine
Drive only by the overpass further west or at
the Taylor Way traffic lights.
