Each month, we put together a newsletter with information about the
credit union and various topics of interest to consumers. Members who

Retail Selling: the theory of buying and the problems of selling. A

Sugar contains no vita-
mins, no minerals, no proteins;.
there are approximately 30
calories per rounded teaspoon
of sugar. Sugar is _ not

- necessary for a well-balanced
diet, since the body can
convert all the energy it needs
from other foods. Sugar causes
tooth decay and weight gain.
Some doctors believe that
excessive use of sugar can be
the cause of heart disease,

diabetes, and other serious
ilinesses.

Sugar Is habit-forming. Par-
ents are often responsible for
contributing to sugar ‘‘addic-
tion’’ In young children by
offering sweets as a‘ reward.
Hyperactivity, sleeplessness
and sluggishness In some
children has been attributed to
excessive sugar consumption.

Much of our sugar intake Is
hidden in sweetened foods
such as soda pop (312 tsp. per
6 0z.), cakes, candy (20 tsp. per
4 oz. candy bar), desserts (7
tsp. por average serving of ice
cream), cereals, sauces and
frozen vegetables. To cut down
on sugar, road tha labols on all
packaged foods bofore you buy
them. Whenever possible,
substitute honey, sorghum,
molasses, or genuine maple
eyrup.
