_ Canyon Heights class has fun

"THE touring teddies
have touched down,
bringing with them tales
of international adven-
ture and intrigue.

Canyon Heights teacher
Jullie Desmarais’ Grade 3 class
dispatched 22. stuffed-toy
friends Feb, 14 with an seapect:

They went by plane, train
and automobile with friend,
famil amy and stranger, ‘Their

ardians tracked their travels
through receipt of 82. post-
“cards, ¢-miail messages and let-
ters from entire classrooms of
« children. To date, 14 have
returned, each accompanied by’
a travel diary filled with photos
and notes of teddy’s adventure,

They.are not alone in their
travels. Desmiarais learned of
the class project frum a teacher
friend in Calgary, who'd been
touring teddies for years and
had even landed one of her |
furry ambassadors on Oprah.

The goal, said Desmarais, is
_ for kids to gain awareness of
” the world,”

school.

“He was too tired to come,

1 left him at home.” said the
eight-year-old.

ONCE a monih for the past 11 years, students of Westcot elementary have
mada sandwiches to be distributed to the poor in the downtown eastside
through the Siaters of the Atonement. Kids bring the fillings and the scheol’s
parent group suppiles the bread and condiments for 300 sandwiches.
