prett receives award

BARBARA Brett received the 1997 President’s
Award of Distinction at United Way of the Lower
Mainiand’s annual general meeting May 8.

The award is United Way's most prestigious. Past recipients
include Lois Hollstedt, executive director of the YWCA (1996)
and former Lt.-Gov. David Lam (1995).

; Brett is former executive director of Family Services of
Greater Vancouver. She was recognized for her influence over
social work practice and policy in B.C. since the °70s.
Her involvement with United Way included serving on
“numerous committees and task forces, and assisting with many
fundraising campaigns.

bag in the restroom stall he
was using.

After finishing his busi-
ness, he apparently just for-
got that he had been headed
to another office to drop off
the money.

And Mike Shreckengost
appeared in a Pennsylvania
court recently to reclaim the
$20,000 that he had tossed
onto the side of a road in
February 1996 as a trooper
approached his stopped car.

charged with shooting her
boyfriend to death, surren-
dered to police only after
having aired her favorite
song, Has Anybody Seen Amy?

Ms. Dale Gray, 41,
claimed in her sexual harass-
ment lawsuit against the
University of Alabama that a
female professor's having
lured her into an affair caused
her severe emotional prob-
lems.

At her trial in Tuscaloosa,
Gray (who had her breasts
removed, takes testosterone,
and now sports a beard “to
hide the little girl,” she said)
disclosed that she was mar-
ried three times to men and
once to a woman with whom
she planned a “fantasy” child
(a faked pregnancy that she
said was common among les-
bians) that she eventually
“killed off,” and had a five-
year sexual relationship with
her mother.
