NV tailor goes State-of-the-art IT WAS only fitting. North Vancouver tailor and dry- cleaner Paul Minichicilo, owner of Paul’s of North Shore Custom Tailors and Dry Cleaners, wore a green suit on the day he invited a News reporter to view the latest addition to his successful operation: A $50,000 environmentally- friendly dry-cleaning machine — the first of its kind on the North Shore. The well-known North Van- couver businessman has decided to go gree Minichietlo said he has been thinking about purchasing the machine, which was imported from West Gennany, for some time. “T really wanted a machine that would be environmentally friendly because I really do care about our environment,”’ said Minichielto. “There’s no smell with this machine. In fact, every machine should be made like this.” The dry-cleaning machine, which is computerized, has also won the seal of approval from the provincial environment ministry. Dick Blanchard, of Stalwart Machinery and Suppiies Ltd., an importer and distributor of dry- cleaning and laundry machinery, said the BOWE Permac dry- cleaning unit releases no fumes in- to the environment. “It’s all stainless steel so there is no room for corrosion. The solvent is clean and the machine is hermetically sealed so there is nowhere for the air to go,”’ said Blanchard. ‘‘This is the only manufactured machine that has these safety features.” Apart from the machine at Minichiello’s North Vancouver location at 127 West Esplanade, Bulk By Surj Rattan News Reporter there is one similar dry-cleaning machine being used in downtown Vancouver and one in Victoria. Minichiello said his en- vironmentally-friendly machine is “a major addition to our opera- tions. I'l be dry-cleaning suits with that machine, and when the suit comes out it will look iike it’s brand new. There’s not too many places where you can take an ex- pensive suit to have it dry-cleaned properly.”’ Design changes in the machine’s air duct system and the location of heat exchangers allows the BOWE Permac unit to: @ provide lower energy and cool- ing water consumption; e@ provide lower garment temperatures; @ provide lower moisture loss in garments and; . ®@ provide a lower zesidual solvent concentration in the unit’s cage and in textiles at the cycle’s end. Air flows through the garments diagonally, allowing heavy solvent-laden air to be blown out more easily. The air pre-heater is bypassed during the second drying phase which results in lower gar- ment temperatures. But the addition of the state- of-the-art, environmen- tally-friendly dry - cleaning machine is not the only big news Minichiello has to announce. He has again decided to start to make custom-made suits for profes- sional athletes, something he used to do years ago before he decided to take a break.
