As soon as he has been sedated
for his “trip’’ to the red planet,
the body count begins its relent-
less climb.

\t rapidly develops that Doug
isn’t Doug, but Hauser, a former
colonist with dangerous secrets
buried inside his thick skull. The
Agency (that reliable cliche of
paranoid thrillers) has wiped
Hauser’s identity clean and
planted him on Earth with a mock
life, complete with a lithe blonde
wife, Lori (Sharon Stone).

Clues lead Quaid/Hauser on a
bloody return to Mars with hit
men and resistance fighters at
every turn. Everyone wants to pick
Hauser’s memory, especially the
underground leader, Kuato, and
the corporate big-wheel Cohaagen
(Ronny Cox).

Strewn amongst the clutter are
mutants, ruthless corporations,
holograms, oxygen for sales, cat
fights, half-million-year-oid atien
artifacts ... but mostly its got big
red dollops of violence. Bad guys

the eight-tentacled sorceress gives
the teenager three days to ex-
change kisses with her true love.

The fluid animation, colorful

winning songs go a long way to

compensate for the questionable |
