This weird family of mine, just like yours, has branches right in Victoria and Ottawa. ‘They live in the States and Japan and Russia and Ireland and San Salvador. Some of them are black, some yellow, some _ pink. They are Communists and Christians and Jews and atheists. They are millionaires and wrestlers and priests and hookers and bakers and_ candle-stick makers. They are rotters and they are loving and beautiful and creative and com- passionate and concerned and self-giving. They are all members of the universal family of human beings. Make sure you get yours!”) that our neighbors, especially if they are ‘dif- ferent, need to be guarded against and kept in their place; (“Don't get too friendly. Give them an inch and they'll take over!”) These days there are millions of protesters against many of the actions that we are STILL teaching our kids to emulate. But the protesting is powerful. Perhaps it will help nourish within us the desire and the choice to live at the growing edge.
