about cverywhere you go
where a crowd gathers in
San Diego, there is some old
salt who has a talc to tell
about a tattoo.

“Did you hear about the
young lady who had a
cowboy ridng a horse tat
toocd on her arm and
popeye on her chest?” asked
one retired Navy man.

“Over the years, the
cowboy fell off the horse,
but Popcye just kept hanging
around,” he finished with a

hearty laugh.

I've never paid much
attention to tattoos, other
than hearing that young

sailors liked to have “mom”
or the namo of their best girl
emblazoned on their arms in
painfultand indcliblc ink

I have also understood
that women have frequcnicd
tattoo parlors in the fast few
years. And, recently Ive
noticed ads for a ncw motion
picture callcd “Tattoo” tn
which an artist of the tradc
fulfills a dream of tattooing a

woman from head to toe.
So what's this big decal
about tattoos? I wondered.
