THREE metres a lane. That’s what you wiil have to drive in once the Stanley Park Causeway is refinished. Meanwhile the lanes of the refurbished Lions Gate Bridge will be widened from the present 2.9 metres (9.5 feet) to 3.5 m (11.5 feet). That extra rwo feet on the bridge is going to give even nervous drivers like Nicole Parton a newfound feeling of confidence. The former Vancouver Sun columnist once confessed in print to being a white-knuckled driver on the Lions Gate, afraid — with justification — to use the centre lane. However, once we've all breezed over the spacious northern approaches to the bridge and admired the cruise ships from the safety of our two (assuming the lights are with us!) spacious bridge lanes it will be back to the usual sub-standard (the current Roadbuilders Association standard is 3.5 m) bottle- neck, It’s not as if Stanley Park would be raped for the sake of driver safety. In the absence of a fourth lane, five feet is all we are talking about. Without it, you can bet we will be paying to defend the province from law suits arising from traffic accidents. Tt doesn’t make sense what they are doing. Mark Schulze North Vancouver You mean they are nor widening the causeway? What's the point of that — slowing traffic down? They are wasting their time. I dis- agree with that. “one of the most meaningful sources of support is other parents who have experienced the same or similar day to day issues with their own chil- dren.” SHARE Vancouver offers monthly support group mect- ings for parents to share their experiences in a “safe place” where everyone is encouraged to listen with “unconditional positive eegard” and to main- tain conticentiality. SHARE also offers quar- terly newsletters, workshops, a library of resources, and an annual symposium. The first monthly meeting of SHARE will be held Tuesday, Sept. 14. from 7 p.m.to 9:30 p.m. at Carson Graham secondary school, 2145 Jones Ave. North Vancouver.
