The community comes together to everyone. Fundraising for North Shore playground swings into high gear with Park Royal. A well-used North Shore playground is in the community spot- light and the much needed goal is finally within reach. The play- ground at Dundarave Beach has been a popuiar spot for locals and tourists for over 30 years but is in need of an upgrade. A volunteer task force along with The District of West Vancouver has created a plan to revitalize the park with new and safer equipment and improved disabled access. Dundarave Beach is a favorite for seawalkers, picnickers, chil- dren and sun worshipers of all ages. As with all popular outdoor venues, weathering and deterioration through high use has resulted in the need for an upgrade to the playground. Some of this equipment is over 30 years old-—and in need of attention. The mandate of the task force is to develop a plan that will replace old and unsafe equipment while introducing natural play elements like boulders, hide and seek bushes. and subtle play equipment with natural wood finishes. The improvements will add access for the disabled to the water's edge, iu -ssible picnic tables and play elements. Eight months in the works, two questionnaires and three draft plans later, the task force has developed a plan to please all ages and accommodate the needs of many—it will be a park for everyone io love and enjoy. The natural design will harmonious- ly fit into this seaside community playground. Unfortunately, this wonderful park is underfunded. The District has budgeted $85,000, the West Vancouver Foundation has donated an additional $25,000 and the Nigel Miller Memorial Fund will be contributing approximately $14,000. A $25,000 fundraising effort called Outreach for the Beach has been initiat- ed to meet the funding shortfall of projected costs, and if possi- ble add more access elements to the plan. PARK ROYAL HAS JOINED FORCES WITed THE TASK FORCE BEH 3 UTRE4SCH FOR THE BEACH” and aims to assist in raising funds to make up this shortfall. You can also help and be remembered at the beach forever. Each corporate and private donation is tax deductible ($500 or $1,000 private and $1,000 or $2,000 corporate) and will be recognized permanently on the site. Your caring will receive immediate and permanent recogni- tion from ali park users. Of course, donations of any size will be greatly accepted.
