The trucks and mega-vans lumbering along the trails and road sides of Lighthouse Park invade, mutilate, destroy special sites of plant species and seedlings of wild flowers and trees which have narrow ecological tolerances. This situation is particularly exacerbated in times of raintall occurring in all months of the year. It is not possible to effect the promised rehabilitation and remedial steps to “put everything back to normal” after the event. In any case, no amount of dollars could compensate for the damage incurred. The fragile ecology has slowly and gently evolved: over thousands of vears and should be treasured by all of us. Who among us has the right to upset the unique diversity of the park’s flora and fauna by allowing industry to take over from those dedicated to the preservation of everything we love about Lighthouse Park? “The great: alue of Lighthouse Park lies in the fact that it is a Virgin area which has never been logged aver and so retains its vegetation relatively undisturbed — and yet is so close to a large centre of population,” — Nature West Coast, Vancouver Natural History Society, published by Discovery Press. The mild smoker slide shows tissue that looks a lot like grey concrete with some of the sponge holes filled in with a grey congealed syrupy gunk.
