the process of receiving clear-

ance to develop the site, coun-
cillors asked her to pay $30,000

said the hold-up is a result of
city council’s decision to
parade the crossing to a full

costs a lot more.

“We were gettin; ng all geared
up to put a <peci crosswalk
in,” seid Barber. “We took that
to council and they preferred a
traffic light to put in there.”

Council’s decision put a
wrench inte city staff plans.
They had gone ahead and pre-

pared for a pedestrian activated
signal. A full traffic light for the
intersection will not be casy,
said Barber, because of the
area’s por visibility and the
fact three streets actually feed
into Lonsdale at the site

Clark can understand the
difficultics associated — with
installing traffic signal lights at
the intersection, but can’t quite
get her head around the lecgth
of the delay.

“That (difficult sight lines)
doesn't explain why it has taken
nwo years,” said Ciark.

Further complic ating the
process, said Barber, is the fact
the city’s long-time traffic tech
nologist has retired.

Coun, Darrel! Mussatto was

part of a group of councillors
who asked Clary” to forward the
additional funds for a signal to
be installed. But he is not in
favor of installing a full traffic
light at the intersection.

As for the delay in installing
the lights, Mussatto is adamang
he doesn’t rund the delay.

“The problem is that coun-
cil made a bad decision and J
hope I never see it (a full waffic
light),” he said adding he'll try
to bring the issue back to the
council for reconsideration.

Meanwhile Clark said the
lack of action could result in
tragedy. “That icaves us sittin
on a very busy corner with
nothin and s somebady’s goin
to get hurt,” said Clark. “And
it’s going ta be r00 late.”

for funds to finance the
installation of lights at
the intersection. Two
years iater nothing has
been done.
