ickaninnish inn readies
for a springtime opening

Landmark inn
to offer rustic,
elegant dining
in Long Beach

A NEW Wickaninnish. Inn
will be opening in the spring
near spectacular Long Beach
on the west

Vancouver Island.

“It will be a retreat or a get-
away and will draw people unfa-
miliar with the West Coast." said
Victoria Pratt, spokesman for The
Wickaninnish Inn Ltd. .

The old Wickaninnish Inn was
a renowned destination for world
travellers and adventurers inter-
ested in visiting impressive natur-
al locales. :

The landmark inn became part
of the Pacific Rim National Park
-and was converted to an interpré-
tive centre in 1978.

The brand new inn has a design
reminiscent of the old inn, said
Pratt, adding that rates will range
from $120 in low season to $220
in high season.

- The’ new. inn’s manager is
Charles McDiarmid who recently
moved from North Vancouver to

Tofino, and is the son of one the .

investors in the $7.5 million pro-
ject, Howard McDiarmid.

Pratt said the 46-room inn with
ocean .views is geared to upscale
customers who. ate interested in
natural, rustic elegance.

“Food is just as important as
everything else.” said Pratt about
the destination’s focus.

The Wickaninnish Inn is locat-
ed on Osprey Lane at Chesterinan
Beach, seven kilometres (4.3
miles): north of the Pacific Rim
National Park in the township. of
Tofino.
