Parks commission agrees with council proposal

WEST VANCOUVER'S Parks and Recreation
Advisory Commission is backing district coun-
cil’s proposal fur a sewer line route that would
widen and raise the seawalk.

The highly controversial sewer line, to be built by the
Greater Vancouver Regional District's water and sewer
department, provides the municipality with opportunity
to upgrade the seawalk ata subsidized cost.

Council sought advice from consultants concerning

The commission stipulated that use of the ‘seawalk
should still be restricted to pedestrians, with access by
emergency and inaintenance vehicles only.

Noting that exiting granite curbs of walls would be
replaced by cunercte, the commission insisted that gran-
ite be integrated into the design wherever possible.

Part of the project includes replacement lighting,
which the commission wants to be integral to the design
and construction.

It also insists that the appearance and size of a pro-

‘posed safety fence be mitigated wherever possible.

In a separate document, the advisory commission
suggests that while the seawalk should remain a pedes-
trian-orjented puthway, facilities are still needed for the
“youth oriented activities of in-line skating, skate-
bourding and the like.

“The commission urges. council to provide uctive
outlets and locations for these types of youth activity,”
