Seek ever to stand in the Sophoclean light, and take your wounds from it gladly. -— Ezra Pound HESE ARE words to live by for singer/songwriter Megan Metcalfe anc guitar-ist/writer/producer Robbie Steininger. By Kevin Gillies SPOTLIGHT FEATURE The philosophical advice offered by Mr. Pound can be found taped to the computer in the musi- cal couple’s North Vancouver home. The two teamed up in 1991 and have been working together ever since. They are about to test the Sophoclean light by releasing Metcalf’s debut CD, Love is an Outlaw, later this summer. Steiniger is producing the album and he also will be teaching styles and techniques of modern guitar this Friday as part of Music West ‘94's Music Show. His repertoire includes 14th- century lute music, heavy metal rock and everything in between. . Since leaving cold prairie win- ters behind in 1971 for a musical career in the big city, Steininger has accrued album credits with players such as: John Mellancamp, Sue Medley, One Horse Blues, Paul fanz, ICU, Mark Perry, Doucette, Rita McNeil and Val y to name just a few. Playing onstage with Medley, he has opened for Bob Dylan and Tom Cochrane. Steininger has been playing and producing tock, jazz, country, Jues, and western classical as well as ethnic music from places like India, Bali and South America. __ If Steininger lives and breathes music, folk-rock singer Metcalfe lives and bréathes words. “I read voraciously,” she said. For her, Love is an Outlaw is a labor of love. Quoting a fistfull of literists, she says Steininger creates the perfect musical environment.
