What do you like to do to relax whea you're not working?: ‘I’m a film buff; I like to see as many films as | can. Not necessarily the mega-hits but the films that come up at the Varsity and the Ridge. **¥ watch a lot of videos and | read a lot. I like reading about things that have happened in another time or another country. | use it to escape but [ also use it just to be able co travel without leaving the house and to learn about other cultures. “1 play ice hockey at Karen Magnussen. If I were to look forward to a holiday it would in- clude salt water fishing.”’ What is a routine day at work fike for you?:.‘‘My mother makes me toast in the morning because | don’t have breakfast. I sleep in. I'll leave my apartment the very -latest I can in order to get to work by 9 a.m. “By 9:30 a.m. 1 have quite a few phone messages. Almost every week I have a couple of meetings with the chamber of commerce. “So my ‘day starts at nine. If i'm lucky | have lunch at 2 p.m. or 2:30 p.m. and [ usually don’t finish until about 6 p.m. “*For 3/4 years I worked six to seven days a week and now I'm looking forward to working only five days a week. There is no normal day. Every day is at the whim of my customers and clients.” What is the most important issue facing the chamber today?: ‘I’m not sure it's the most important one but one that comes to mind i: crime prevention. “A lot of local small businesse: are being hit and there's a little bi of fraud going around. “A simple break-in and the theft of a coniputer can reall devastate a small business. I thint we have to learn how to protec ourselves and know how to reac when something like that hap pens.”” Is the provincial government do ing a good job of supportiny small businesses?: ‘‘I was actuall: evpecting a large increase it membership with the chamber 0 TC 64 Small business... is really going to be the salvation of our economy. 99 commerce when the NDP gov ernment came in. “I think a lot of people migh think there is a loss of support fo businesses with the NDP govern ment. I personally don’t thinl there is much encouragement fo business under the current gov ernment, particularly smal business. “Small business, | think, is re ally going to be the salvation o our economy. It will be th smaller, creative companies tha come to the rescue.
