The North Shore enjoys a sich tradition of people giving their time and resources to the betterment of the community. When the Auxiliary first met in North Vancouver City Hall on May 27, 1921, no one could predict what a wonderfully caring and resourceful group this would be 70 years and well over a million dollars later. A Glance through the Scrapbook On June 25, 1921, the Auxiliary held their first fundraiser, a tag day, to raise funds to purchase a sewing machine for making The Board of patient equipment. This is in addition to the patient comfort funds raised and the many thousands of hours of patient services provided. There are presently over 500 members, several having served over 30 years. hospital linens, gowns and lab coats. The sewing machine cost $41.28, and was loaned to the Red Cross for their sewing meetings at 25-cenis a meeting. Over $1,100 was raised in that first year. Membership in the Society is open to all adult North Shore and Bowen Island residents except for hospital employees.
