The incidents are believed to be linked co coffin deliveries Thurs- day and a car torching Tuesday in Richmond, a coffin delivery Thursday morning to the doorstep of a Granville island businessman, and coffin deliveries and car tor- chings in Bellingham carlier this week. Locally, an incendiary device exploded shortly after 7:30 a.m. in the garage of an opulent, newly constructed Millstream Road resi- dence occupied by lawyer Roger Lawrence and family. His wife Donna unwittingly triggered the bomb’s sophisticated detonator. The bomb appeared to have been made of a small battery, a small amount of gun powder and a det- onator. According to police, the woman teceived minor powder burns to her clothing, and her hair was singed. Said West Vancouver Sgt. Hugh Carleton: ‘‘Had the woman not continued walking and put some distance between her and the bomb, it could have definitely caused serious bodily injury. We’re treating this case as more than a nuisance case.”” Later that morning, at 11:30 a.m., a life-size, home-made pine coffin was delivered to a Millstream hore, located a block away from the bombing site. The coffin had “‘R.1.P.°" written on it “See sleek. : ‘summer fashions PAGE 15 of a coffin to another By MICHIAET, BECKER News Reporter and a synspathy card was taped to it. Police believe the coffin was mistakenly delivered to the wrong house, and had been meant for delivery a block down the road. The coffin was delivered by two men in a van. Meanwhile in Vancouver, a cof- fin was delivered to a Granville Island address early Thursday morning. A coffin was discovered standing upright at the entrance to a Johnston Road building at 8 a.m. According to a Vancouver Police spokesman, the coffin had written on the side of it, ‘‘R.I.P. Mike Richards”’ In Richmond, Thursday, two coffins were dumped on the St. Brides Place lawn of Richmond resident Ron Johnson. The man’s car was found aflame 4:18 a.m. July 4. Earlier this week in Bellingham, a former Vancouver stock broker and businessman involved in the mining industry, now living across the border, received two coffins and had his car torched. Said Carleton: ‘‘They (the vic- tims) are all known to each other as business associates. It’s safe to say there is a link between the coffins and the fires.”’ Carleton said police have a number of suspects.
