And while several North Shore sponsors tor the refugees have come forward over the last two weeks, more are needed. Officials from the North Shore Multicultural Society say 30 North Shore families have signed up to sponsor refugees. “T believe more (are) needed,” said Golnaz Ali, the society’s host program coordinator. Around 800 refugees, displaced by the war in the Balkans, are expected to come to the Lower Mainland — some to link with family members and others with sponsorship groups. Groups of five — whether from a business or a community group — are being sought to sponsor families for one or two years.
