In North America alone, total projected cruise in- dustry sales of $74 billion this year are expected to balloon to $10 biilion over the next five years, says the Cruise Line Industry Association. With the recent Princess Cruises/Sitmar Cruises amalgamation and the recently announced plans of a number of lines to add bigger and more luxurious ships to their fleets, these companies are gearing up for an explosion in cruising popularity. By 1991, cruise lines all over the world are expected to double the amount of cabin space they have today, predicts International Cruiseshipcenters. “Cruise lines are penetrating broader markets and creating more exciting, affordable and diverse cruise packages to meet burgeoning demand,” said the sales and marketing organization that specializes in cruise-only vacations. In 1970, 50,000 people booked space on cruises; last year, three million vacationers took to the water aboard the myriad of cruise ships heading to destina- tions such as the Caribbean, Mexico and the South Pacific. Boredom never a probiem THE CRUISE Lines International Association provides answers to some of the most commonly asked questions about cruise vacations. ° What’s there to do on a cruise? Won’t I get bored? On a modern-day cruise ship, you'll have the opportunity to roam and enjoy all the public rooms and deck space. Pius the added adventure of exploring new and exciting ports of call — either on your own or on a guided tour with your shipmates, Cruise ships are like floating resorts, with all the things fine resorts have to offer.
