WV Yacht Club breezes through race

THE APRIL 17 to 19 Southern
Straits Classic was one of the
fastest races in the 19-year history
of the West Vancouver Yacht
Club's (WVYC) annual event.

In all, 101 boats were registered
as entries in the race, which began
at 10:30 a.m. on Good Friday at
Pundarave Pier.

Seventy-two boats sailed in the
race’s 138-mile long course, while
26 sailed in the 85-mile short
course.

Entrants enjoyed good weather
and northwest winds gusting to 25
knots:

Overall winner in the [nterna-
tional Offshore Rules (JOR) cate-
gory of the long course was the
40-foot Delicate Balance from the
Seattle Yacht Club. The. boat,
which won the IOR division two,
finished with an overall elapsed
time of 21:11, after crossing the
Point Atkinson finish line at 8:41
a.m. Saturday. \

In the long course’s Pacific
Handicap Racing Fleet (PHRF)
category, Inua, a Farr 1020, also
from Seattle, won with an elapsed
time of 23:22. Inua also won’ the
PHRF’s B division.

In the short course, Trolley Car
from Vancouver's Windward
Yacht Club won the G division,
and was also first in the overall
short course, with an overall
elapsed time of 15:55. The 24-
