Her dad, Martin, owner of Turin Automotive, built it for her for this past Christmas. Taking two years for construction, the car‘is a copy of a 1975 Ferrari 312P3 and features a fiberglass body, independent suspension, a monocoque chassis and is electrically powered. Replacement value is $10,000. Martin was assisted by friend Jim Brokensha and his employees in the project. _ [Is your car a benefit? If you, or anyone related to you, is supplied with an automobile by your com- pany and you are allowed to use the vehicle for personal travel, or it is available for your use even if you do not take advantage of it, you are enjoying a benefit that you are required to include in your income. This benefit is called a standby charge and new calculation rules were proposed in the June 28 federal budget for deter- mining the value of = the benefit. Comparing Vancouver with Toronto and Montreal, and Victoria with Edmon- ton, Ottawa and Halifax, the survey lists 80 premiums from four national insurance cmpanies. Only three — all from Halifax ~— undercut ICBC’s comparative rate. Sample premiums were collected for two average vehicles: a 1979 Datsun 510 ICBC premiums low and a 1982 Caprice, both driven by mature (over 30) drivers, pleasure only, with five years of claim free driv- ing. In addition, the survey monitored the impact of an occasional 19 year old driver on these premiums.
