aa. «; FS ~ fe Al2 - Wednesday, November 4, 1981 - North Shore News Tax information NORTH VANCOUVER District staff deny they blocked Betty Griffinin her efforts to gain information on tax assessments. Mel Palmer, District director of financial ser- vices, had been asked by council to comment on charges by Griffin that staff and members of the B.C. Assessment Authority had refused to provide her with information that should have been made public. But Palmer argued in a Teport to council Monday that Griffin wasn't denied any information that she shouldn't have been denied. Griffin, president of the Committee for Fair Assessments, wants North Van District to change from assessment option D_ to option A, which is less harsh denied on homeowners. However, when she appeared as a delegation last week, she told council she couldn't provide them with any Statistics to back up her argument because she was denied the information necessary to compile the Statistics. Palmer said Griffin should have been able to make her calculations from the assessment rolls, which are public. Council passed a motion of Alderman Mary Sega! that it explain to the public exactly what information can be made available — a category that includes bylaws, council minutes (except in camera), assessment roll and _ staff reports relating to items discussed in open meeting.
