sioned debate about pri-

vate property rights.

the environment and parks

committee, was being consid-
ered by council.

Pemberton
sidewalks

NORTH Vancouver District
council approved the reallo-
cation of $84,000 in the
Pemberton Heights Traffic
Calming Implementation
project at its Oct. 25 meet-
ing.

The new — allocation
includes construction of side-
walks adjacent to Capilano ele-
mentary school on the cast
side of Bridgman from 20th to

21st Streets at a cost of

$26,000.

Sidewalks will be extended
from 23st to 22nd Street in
the year 2000 budget.
Wheelchair letdowns along
22nd Street will be imple-
mented at a cost of $18,000,
to enable both wheelchairs and
baby carriages te have access to
the school.

The remaining $40,000
will be allocated to the ongo-
ing Capilano Sidewalk Project.

Since the money was allo-
cated last year, the Pemberton
Heights Community
Association has reconsidered
its needs. As well, council puta
Traffic Calming, Policy in place
two months ago. This policy
does not allow any traffic calm-
ing measures along bus routes
and main emergency routes
such as 22nd Street, according
to Gavin Joyce, manager of
transportation and public
works for the district.
