Western gear goes domestic for fall in rough and tumble separates. Home-on-the-range fashions combine checks and printed corduroy, rugged denim and worn suede, outlaw black with sterling silver, herringbone tweed and oxford cloth, heavy canvas and Navajo blanket fabric. Vests, yoked corduroy shirts, handknitted or intricately designed sweaters, brown tweed blazers and shirts with western ticking trim are also part of the trend. And cowboy boots finish everything. A new awareness of personal Style is apparent in a trend that blends influences from opposing cultures and social groups. The hybrid fashion look ‘‘mismat- ches” rich looks ‘with poor ones, neglected appearances with sophisticaied polish, handmade clothing with mass-produced, ethnic multicultural charm with innovative design and even masculine with feminine. Broken-in, time-worn fabrics are worn in matte colors such as burnt umber (orange red), maroon (browned purple), moss, plum, Prussian blue and grey. A growing number of North Shore shops are helping to dissolve the style-starved myth of the Vancouver male.
