If you're the curious sort who likes sightseeing, pick a cruise with lots of ports of call. Others enjoy life aboard ship so much that they never disem- bark. For them, the ideal cruise is one of the “repositioning” cruises, especially one that crosses the Atlantic or Pacific. REPOSITIONING Another advantage of a repositioning cruise is that they are often a bargain. Another thing to consider is the “theme” cruise. Many lines offer a variety of special guest stars and teachers who give con- certs or classes during the entire Cruise. Ive been on two of these — one a country and western music cruise and the other a Duplicate Bridge session — both excellent. YOUR CABIN How do you choose a cabin? The location is important! For the smoothest ride, pick a spot near the centre of the ship. Although most people spend very little time in their cabins a bit of space is nice. Choose the largest you can afford. Outside cabins have the ad- vantage of a porthole — nice for light sleepers who can tell if it’s morning without waking their partner. THE COST The comparative cost of a cruise may tell you something about what to expect on board. Very inexpensive cruises have to cut corners somewhere and it’s often the food that suffers. Also, che very inexpensive cruises lure a lot of students and young people who may want to party more than you’d like. If you compare the cost of cruising to a similar stay in a good hotel you'll find cruising is no more expensive — remember the cruise includes ‘your meals and transportation in the price. Cruising has been voted the most satisfying vacation for North Americans, and for many it’s almost an addiction. If you haven't tried it yet, be warned! And consider taking your kids ona cruise.
