Free evening concerts to be featured

The craft fair, sponsored by the
North Vancouver Community
Arts Council and Chamber of
Commerce, runs every day from
June 21 to 30 (except Sundays),
from !0a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Conveners Freda Peters and
Valerie Mass says the crafis will
include jewelry made of antique
glass and trade beads, paper,
leather, fimo, brass and sterling
silver, ceramics, Raku, porcelain
and stoneware, gift boxes, design-
er bunnies, wooden items,
wreaths, photography and baby
baskets.

There will be musical enter-
tainment daily at noon.

There will be lots going on on
Saturday, June 23, but with a lit-
tle effort families will be able to
catch all the festivities.

People of all ages will enjoy the
annual Folkfest parade, which
processes up Lonsdale beginning
at 10:30 a.m.

Following the parade, everyone
is invited to participate in the
Family Fair at Mahon Park, 16th
and Jones, tt will start at noon,
and offer fun for both kids and
adults.

Grown-ups will enjoy the beer
garden, carroche singers,
volleyball and horseshoes, while a
petting zoo, face painters and the
water park will xeep the little ones
busy.

Flicka gymnasts, square
dancers, musicians and a huge in-
flatable whale will also entertain
the crowds, Call 988-6166 for in-
formation.

At 1:30 p.m. that day, a Japa-
nese play, Benkei at the Bridge,
will be presented at the North
Vancouver City Library at 14th
and Lonsdale. Benkei, says pro-
ducer Heather Roberts, is a
favorite Japanese hero. .

From 11 a.m to § p.m. Satur-

day, music fans will be con-
gregating at Waterfront Park to
hear local musicians including the
45-member Vancouver Italian
Folk Chorus under the direction
of West Vancouver resident Helga
Belluz. .
+ On Saturday evening, an amaz-
ing array of performances kicks
off at the Centennial Theatre.
Evening shows are free and begin
at 8 p.m.

On Saturday, see Persian vocal-
ist Hamid Taghavi, Bela Domingo
Polynesian Dance, Scottish Blue
Bells, Strathcona Chinese Dancers
and the Caledonian Society.

Performers Sunday evening will
be the Sweet Adelines, Tatsumi
Japanese Dancers, Ballet
Folklorico Mexico, Czardacz

CAPILANO COLLEGE vocal
student Keitha Fishwick won three
first places in the vocal solo,
Gilbert and Sullivan, and duet
competitions at the recent Co-
quitlam District Music Festival.

A student in the Bachelor of
Music Transfer Program at the
college, Fishwick is another
feather in the cap of voice instruc-
tor Arlene Mcintyre,
taught many award-winning vocal-
ists.

Another of McIntyre’s students,
Adele Clark, won rave reviews for
her recent performance in UBC's
successful musical production of
Sweeny Todd.
