% Bo. xe. 10 - Friday, August 25, 1989 - North Shore News North Shere drivers help cancer patients HUNDREDS of North Shore cancer patients have benefited from the work of volunteer drivers for the past 15 years, according to Nerth Vancouver representative Bob Wilson. Connected with the North Van- couver Canadian Cancer Society and West Vancouver Canadian Cancer Society, the two groups cf drivers use their own cars to take local patients to the cancer clinic in Vancouver or to chemotherapy sessions at Lions Gate Hospital. The drivers are not attached to any lodge or organization, said Wilson, who noted a recent North Shore News article about a similar volunteer driver service that is now being offered by members of Masonic Lodges to patients in the Vancouver area. “They are providing a good ser- vice which is especially needed in Vancouver,’” Wilson said. Accordiag to Wilsoa, the North Vancouver volunteer drivers pro- vided rides to about 300 patients. At school he particularly likes English, PE. and French. He enjoys reading, writing stories and drawing toa His summer activities include svimming and sailing as well as baseball and in the winter he also likes to ski and play soccer. Last year the family went on a trip to Australia and New Zealand and the brothers were able to use some of their eamings from the North Shore News on the holiday. Ryan is also saving up for new ski equipment and Jason is saving for his future. We thank them both for being Star Carriers this week and for a job well done.
