Dear Editor: Your article February 21 ‘regarding the sgeed for facilities for battered wives on the North Shore men- tioned Chesterfield House. There seems to be some confusion in the community which we would like to clear up! At Chesterfield House our goal is TO TREAT AND PREVENT CHILD ABUSE. Parents-in-Crisis groups meet weekly under the direction of .our social worker, and drop-in babysitting gives these parents an additional break from the stress of child raising. We DID have a Transition House on the upper floor of Chesterfield House. Transition House became North Shore Emergency Shelter in 1978, and voted to separate from Chesterfield House and form their own Board. __.This service was never. — called Chesterfield House (even though it was located there) and it is causing a lot of confusion within the community to read these articles that are not ac- curate. Most of our funding to continue with our Child Abuse Prevention Program is assured, and we are ap- preciative of the support we have been receiving from the community. We at Chesterfield House support the North Shore Emergency Shelter and the need on the North Shore for a facility for battered wives.
