IT HAS taken a long time, but some people in the media are beginning to catch on in the matter of im- migration. Most mainstream media folk, you see, wet their pants at the thought of being called racists. And some are even daft enough to believe that one day we shall all dance happily around the multicult maypole. But there are a few hopeful signs. In the Globe & Mail, _ Michael Valpy has run two col- umns on this subject. The headline on one read: “It's not racist to discuss immigration."' An astounding statement, com- ing from him. For he is a wet who likes to bleed for blacks, Indians and ather dowatroddens. | Now he points out that school boards don’t have the means to cater to the immigrant hordes and that this should be debated in the election campaign. Wonders never cease. » - He also quotes figures showing that only 15% of the 250,000 im- . “Migrants now coming in every year are selected. The rest come either as ‘“‘refugees” or as rela- __ tives. : : - All of which has been reported » many times by me, your wretched racist scribe. © It was in 1975 while on the < Varicouver Sun that t first drew attention to the bulging mess in , the Vancoiiver schools. Report magazine, Don Hunter in The Province, and Eric Margolis of the Toronto Sun have aised their voices, too. - “In taking a tough stand, Margolis wrote recently: | Please explain yourself, Corvette Bob . Dear Editor: My office is located down the . . block from the welfare office in ‘North Vancouver. ‘ : .Every month or, so I see some- “thing that really gets me thinking about the : social, welfare net we have in Canada. But, as European governments have just discovered, if they don’t act people will rise up and act for them. Ignoring the immigration issue will end up by fuelling ex- tremism...”” Where is the Canadian politi- cian who will grasp the nettle? Not Kimmie. Not Chretien, Not McLAFFlin. All three are com- mitted to the destruction of this country’s demographic pattern. Which is to say the white pattern. And although Preston Manning wants to do away with official multiculturatism, he ducks the : bigger question. If he faced it he would give his “ opponents a bloody nose. But he walks in fear.of the racist-hunters. As for Kimmie, she was in the cabinet that increased the im- migrant intake to a.quarter of a million a year, which was a bla- tant pitch to the ethnic vote. But . * the unwritten inter-party agree- ment in Ottawa makes it safe for her to do it. : Chretien, meanwhile, sucks up shamelessly to the immigrants. And it was the Liberals who wiped out selective immigration in the first place. - McLAFFlin grovels even more. — They should all be made to live “But this month I think the thing. that got me thinking was the fellow who drove up in a. vintage blue corvette to Pick up his welfare cheque. Three thousana recent arrivals from Somalia have been accom- modated there in a one-block arca, and when a security guard ticketed a Somali’s car he was at- tacked. The guard called for reinforce- ments. Other Somalis came | charging along. Dogs were brought in. A Somali woman was bitten. A riot ensued. Screaming “‘racisin’’ (that's the second word of English these peo- ple learn, the first being ‘‘ref- ugee’’),the Somalis blocked off an access road to the Pearson Inter- national Airport. Three have been charged with assault, uttcring threats, and assault with a weapon. One said “that Canada is like a police state, but shows no desire to go back to Somalia. There were demands that the ‘racist’ security guards be removed. But a loca! building Manager says, “if there’s a villain it’s the federal government...” Correct. Most of these additions to the Great Canadian Mosaic are on welfare. And 35,000 of thelr brothers and sisters-are living in the Toronto area alone. Wonderful thing, the Canadian Mosaic. Here’s another happy ite flashback. When the Tories started to bring in tens of thousands of Vietnamese in the 1970s, a former director of immigration warned that every Tizird World immigrant would bring an average, of 15 rel- atives. His name was Kim Abbott. But / he was wrong. For.in the Win- nipeg Free Press of Aug. 17 there’ was a statement by-a Winnipeg “ school board official that on average, each Filipino arriving in the city has been responsible for bringing i in 150 others. There are some hopeful signs, as I say. But things will get worse before they get better. It seems to me that Corvette Bob has got some explaining to do!
