Pills dangers unkni Dear Editor: I am saddened and dis- turbed to sce that British Columbia will now lead the way in allowing the morn- ing-after pill to be sold over the counter. Unfortunately, the gener- a public has lithe awareness or understanding of the effects of this drug on a woman’s lifelong health and the health of her future chil- dren. The morning-after pill, a Massive dose of hormones, cannot logically be anything but harmful. And what steps have been taken to educate woman on its long-term effects? Does anyone know what effect hormones taken in this proportion cin have on the unfertilized eggs of the mothers’ future babies? And no one is talking about the serious psycholog- ical experiences women have after using any means to abort. As always, it is our young women who will suffer. How could a drug that is not to be used more‘than twice in a lifetime (that sounds pretty MAIL Box. serious to me) be dispensed across the counter? How will this be monitored? What are we doing to our young women? Someaay we will see that this so-called sexual revolu- tion is a myth. It is a contradiction and a lie. Our young women and our future children are the victims. This May in B.C. when we honour our mothers, we'll honour them under the black cloud of this decision. (Mrs.) Barbara Stuart North Vancouver More immigration insights Dear Editor: Re: Deona Bilignaut’s March 5 letter to the editor. I would like to quote the words of our Jovely foreigner, “Think of other human beings on this earth and the. way you . screw up their lives by your actions.” a This is a true and correct - Statement but should be addressed to “large-scale cor- - porations,” not the tiny 3% population that actualfy stick up for a defenseless environ- ment. These people risk their lives to keep the “B.C. heritage alive,” so maybe our children, visitors and immigrants who come here have something to look at and say, “Wow, now that’s a beautiful sight.” In any event, Deona Blignaut, B.C. has a great immigration policy, in case your citizenship is revoked you will stay at one of our three-star hotels and receive a first-class plane ticket back home, com- pliments of us. As a SeaBus employee it is always gratifying to hear the persistent calls for extending and expanding our unique service. My co-workers and I have checked literally millions of fares over the years and can report that the majority of our loyal and regular users are the greatest! Consistently honest with their fares these passengers are a pleasure to meet and to serve. Lest your article inadver- tently give false hope to those that would freeload, we have a message for them: Don’t bother. This is Canada, eh: no levity allowed Dear Editor: It was with great relief that we read the timely missive from “Outraged at letter” in the March 29, North Shore News. At long last, a true champion has stepped forward to protect us from unchecked humour and satire. The real problem plaguing society today is not Mr. Mcikle’s feminiza- tion of education (Off with aprons; on with armour, March 19), nor is it the upsurge in °70s nos- talgia or the unchecked roliferation of head- unters inthe workplace. While bellbortoms and cannibalism certainly are critical issues, the greatest - threat to society today is the individual who would seek to use humour. to make a point. Canadians have always tided themselves on - cing quiet and steadfast. The voyageurs would rather portage across three provinces than crack a joke. It hurts to smile at 40 below. Fortunately, we have protectors such as “Outraged” who are standing by with sword- like pens, ready to leap _into the fray whenever humour rears it hoary head. One can only hope that Mr. Meikle has learned his lesson and learned it well. Perhaps he will think twice before he next employs levity in public. Jenny and Nicholas.
