Soccer, the North Shore Recreation Commission and sponsors like Macy’s Sports. The program is divided into two areas, player devel- opment and coaching devel- opment. The centre offers coaching courses at various levels along with coaching symposiums. McManus agrees that the big question of how to get Canada going internationally is a tough one but an achiev- able one. “Kids need to start playing in clite Ieagues at younger ages with better coaches,” says McManus. The centre also” offers players the chance to be part of a development training squad. Ir's an cight week course which allows players to. train once a week with Tom and his staff and work on technical skills. The players come from different: clubs and nor just one team. In partnership with the recreation commission, the centre will run summer soccer schools. This year’s plan includes having recreational and and high performance schools. “In the high performance soceer schools, players will be trained in a professional man- ner,” says McManus. “Only players that want to be there should be in attendance.” The elub/team training clinics are free upon request to any clubs of any age or gender on the North Shore. There is however a fee for coaching clinics and player development squads. McManus coached the Canadian Soccer League's Winnipeg Fury and was an assistant with Canada’s 1995 woman's World Cup side.
