Westview word

THE ANNOUNCEMENT for the design-build contract
for the $33.5-million Westview Interchange will come next
week,

That's the word from Ministry of Transportation and
Highways assistant deputy minister Dan Doyle.

Speaking from Victoria, Doyle said he would not
release any more details for the project until the
announcement is made.

The project will eliminate the fight at Westview Drive
and Upper Levels Highway.

Domestic dispute
A 40-YEAR-OLD man locked himself in a basement in
the 1900 block of Cliffwood Road on Tuesday, refusing to
come out for police.

The man, described as an estranged boyfriend, used a
baseball bat to smash items in the house while preventing
a woman from leaving, according to a North Vancouver
RCMP spokesman. She was eventually let go. Police set
up safety perimeters outside. The man, who was also
wanted on a warrant, was arrested with the help of a
police dog. Charges are pending, No name was released.

Creek cleaning

VOLUNTEERS WILL be. cleaning Hastings Creek
Saturday to make the journey of salmon easier in the fall.

North Shore Streamkeepers coordinator Karen Munro
said other volunteers are needed to help clean the stream
and do storm drain marking.

The marking tells people that objects going down that
drain will end up in fish bearing creeks, not sewers. -

Munro asks volunteers to meet at 10 a.m. at 3396
Chaucer Ave. iur the two-hour job.
