Hefty repair
bill faced

A DISABLED man on a disability
pension is now $399 richer thanks to
vandals, but his van is scratched and
rusting due to the damage they
inflicted on it.

ICBC was only willing to foot
half the $1,400 bill to have the van
repainted.

applied has meant he cannot afford to

get it fixed.

“I’m annoyed that I can’t get it
fixed,” he said. “it’s the only way I
can get around.”

Doran said [CBC would have
written off the 1975 Chevy van
except Doran‘s’ van is wheelchair
equipped to the tune of $6,000 with a
lift and electric door opener.

Instead, ICBC gave him $399 last
week for the truck he bought for
$2,500 with a loan from a friend two
years ago, he said.

The same night his van was van-
dalized it was also hit by another car
in the rear quarter panel, nearly dam-
aging electric switches to run the
wheelchair access equipment.

Already, the van is starting to rust
where vandals scratched the vehicle,
he said.
