An initiative of North Van- - couver District’s Task Force on the Environment, it was introduced to local councils by aldermen Mark Sagar of West Vancouver, Bill Rodgers of North Vancouver District and Stella Jo Dean of North Vancouver City. Its obvious goal is to achieve a teduction in garbage and an in- crease in the practise of en- vironmentally sound habits. How- ever, it is also a pilot project in which researchers from the Uni- versity of British Columbia will be trying to determine what strategies are most effective in getting people to adopt ‘‘green’’ practices — not just “green’’ attitudes. The project centres around the three-month calendar distributed in today’s News. Each month, res- idents are given four ‘‘green” lifestyle tips that they are en- couraged to incorporate into their . daily routine, wo The first tip is to carry a mug with you to avoid the use of disposable cups, and organizers of the project are aiming to make this a community-wide endeavour.
