Klassen was honored for his outstanding volunteer efforts for minor hockey. KLASSEN IS MINOR HOCKEY'’S GREATEST VOLUNTEER HOCKEY VOLUNTEER Harvey Klassen was honored for his dedication and service to the North Vancouver Minor Hockey Association Sunday night when he was presented with the out- standing volunteer award, one of three awarded during Minor Hockey Week. Klassen, a 16-year veteran of the association, has a long and distinguished list of contributions he made to the sport. He attended every annual gen- eral meeting since the 1970-71 season, each time overseeing the election of directors and even at- tended the 1988/89 meeting in spite of a stroke. In addition, Klassen has been the assistant coach of two teams, the manager of two teams, and an ice scheduler for two years. From 1977 to 1981 Klassen was the manager and regular time- keeper for a total of four teams. Director of N.V.M.H.A. Bruce Russell said when nominating Klassen that many members ac- tually thought Klassen was an employee of the North Van- couver Recreation Centre or Karen Magnussen Arena, so much time did he spend there. In fact, had Klassen not suf- fered a severe stroke in 1986, Russell said he suspects Klassen would have continued his in- volvement in hockcy, long after his four sons had completed their hockey careers. the game in the second half.
