Comparison unfair

Dear Editor:

In a recent letter to the editor, Mr.
Richard Stcele discusses alleged in-
justices toward Japa-
nese-Canadians imposed by the
Canadian government during the
early part of the Second World
War.

It would appear Mr. Steele is
writing out of ignorance when he
claims that these Japa-
nese-Canadians were treated har-
shly. Certainly, most of these Jap-
anese were ‘‘victims’’ of the times,
but if Mr. Steele had been a Se-
cond World War veteran, as is
Doug Collins, plus being an ex-
POW, he would perhaps have a

OPEN LETTER TO
WEST VAN COUNCIL

For the 18 years since its incep-
tion, the West Vancouver Visual
Arts Society has been vitally con-
cerned with aesthetic and cultural
matters in our beautiful
munivipality.

When the development of the
waterfront property at the foot of
14th Street proceeds, we strongly
support the preservation of the
historic ferry building, preferably
in its present location. When work
needs to be dome around the: /
building, it could be jacked up and Va
subsequently lowered to its original
site. ~

Circa (975 the West Vancouver
Community Arts Council , tried
very hard to spark some action to
restore this beautiful property. At
that time we were asked by Bur-
naby net to refer to it as Heritage
Square. We complied by calling it
* Historic Square, simply as an in-

terim term of reference.
This unique property needs a
compelling name. One of our
. members, Eric Marsden, suggested _
Old Ferry Boat Square, which in
our: opinion is worthy of con-
sideration.

tion I heard while on vacation this
summer,

Tne kids are using metric
measurements. The schools are in-
to metric. Grocery stores on the
other hand continue to emphasize
the old imperial system.

Come on, federal government.
Let’s get on track with metrica-
tion.
