Rachel Cave, a student at Hillside Secondary School in West Vancouver, won the $1,000 second prize in the contest, which was - entered by 1,648 Grade 12 students from across B.C. " Sonja Lindstrom and Lee-Ann McGuire from Argyle Secondary School and Lynne Boardman from Sutherland Secondary School, all from North Vancouver, and Erica Crumlin from West Vancouver Secondary School were among 22 students who won book prizes. Argyle’s Gordon Smith and Kathy Stilwell, Paul Hargreaves from Seycove Secondary School, Janette Hellmuth from West Van- couver Secondary and Toivo Klaar from Sentinel Secondary School wrote essays that were awarded honorable mention. First prize of $1,500 was won by Ari Giligson of Sir Winston Chur- chill Secondary School, and Shaiza - Damji of Crofton House won | the $500 third prize. The participating students wrote the essay in their respective schools at 1 p.m. on Feb. 9. The topic, which was Discovery, wasn't revealed until they sat down to write the paper.
