Police are investigating the
break-in of the home. So
far, they say, there is no sign
that force was used to enter
the home.

The break-in occurred
during the early evening
hours Thursday during a
short absence of the home-
Owners.

The thief or thieves ran-
sacked the house and made
off with a Russian sable fox
fur coat, a video cassette re-
corder and a quantity of
jewelry, the items having a
total value of $40,000.

The robbery, one of the
largest of the year so far in
terms of residential break-
ins, came two days after
Cpl. Garry Sexsmith of the
RCMP’s major crimes sec-
ton told a citizens justice
group that the number of
break-ins has increased this
year over the number for
1982.

While police have had
some success in tracking
down those who have
broken into homes and, in
some cases, have caught
suspects in the act of break-
ing in, they are encouraging
residents to take basic
precautions against break-
