former Cap College teacher By OLGA RUSKIN A former Capilano College art teacher Dorothy Manning is having a major showing of her work in the series of prints called the Perfect Woman, water- colours and acrylics. Manning used Playboy to obtain the nude models she needed for the Perfect eagles, rabbits, foxes, chipmunks and cariboo — will be in the show. Wustrations for a book of poetry by Beth Jankola called Sunflowers are also gallery at the North Van- couver City Hall, until April 9. The art show is being sponsored by the Art in. Public Places Committee of the North Vancouver Community Arts Council. The show is made up of pencil drawings of animals, a Woman series, a set of 12 photo-lithographed prints. A writer as well as an artist, Manning has written and illustrated a children's book called Wilderness Zoo Alphabet coming out later this year. Twelve large studies of animals she did for the book — cougars, herons, included. As well in the show are 15 watercolours which Manning describes as analytical studies of land- scape based on West Coast imagery. Though she thinks of herself basically as a painter, she feels artists “don't have to do one thing. Whether I write or paint it’s basically all the same thing.’ . Originally from Bermuda, Manning grew up in England where she attended the Slade School. of Fine Art, University College, London. Here she was one of 10 students in England winning the Rome scholarship in painting. She has taught at Capilano CoNlege, and now for Continuimg Education, UBC. She has had shows at Presentation House, Gallery Move, Burnaby Art Gallery, UBC Fine Arts Gallery, Edmonton Art Gallery, Exposition and Studio Galleries. The works are for sale and can be seen Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the North Vancouver City Hall, 141 West 14th Street.
