Swimmers do well at championships

THE NORTH Shore Winter
Club (NSWC) Marlins swim
team capped a fast-paced
summer swim season with a
strong showing at the B.C..
Provincia! Championships in
New Westminster last
weekend.

The 32 swimmers representing
the club brought home an im-
pressive 28 medals.

was 18-year-old Theresa [Lan-
ziner, who won a meet record
seven medals, including three
golds.

Jeff Blade came within inches
of gold in the 100-metre
backstroke, but had to settle for
the silver in what was one of the
best races of the meet.

quite a rivalry over the past 10

In the senior women’s relays,
strength and depth powered the
Marlins to gold in both the 200-
metre medley relay and 200-metre
freestyle relay. The medley team
consisted of Ferguson, Honeyman,
Lanziner, and Sarah Cunningham;
while Cunningham, Ferguson,
Lanziner and Sarah Borg com-
bined for the freestyle gold.

Also capturing double-medals
in relays was the Marlinettes, who
won a silver in the 200m medley
relay and the bronze in the 200-
metre freestyle relay. Bhajan
Borg, and cight-year-olds Kristin
Gray, Natalic P4ari, and Sarah
Mullen made up the Marlinettes.

’ The Ministry of Transportation and Highways advises that there ‘will be a combination of
single lance alternating traffic and full bridge closures on the Lions Gate Bridge from
Friday, August 27 to Thursday, September 2. Single lane alternating traffic and tull
closures are needed for the repaving of the viaduct at the north end of the bridge span
and will be in effect as follows:
