Park Royal director Rick Amantea said it’s business as usual at the Park Royal Eaton’s, an important element in the ongoing renovation ar the upscale mall. Eaton's is adding a home fashion area featuring a new Eaton's home store and expanding and renovating the existing Eaton’s department store. Amantea said Eaton’s roid Park Royal the firm's financial woes won't affect the expansion or renovation and Eaton’s is “100% committed” to the multi-million dollar project. “In any issues of this mag- nitude you have to be a little bit wary of what is taking place,” said Amantea. “But at this stage of the game we feel as confident as we can that we're still dealing with a com- pany that’s got a future here in Canada and certainly some- body who is committed to the market area.” Although there is concern Eaton's could close nearly half of its 87 stores Canada-wide, Simon Fraser University assis- tant professor of business strategy Jerry Sheppard said the Park Royal location is like- ly a good one for Eaton’s. He said thar if the private firm's Park Royal site is doing well, they will likely keep it. If the purchasers of Eaton's want to project an upscale image, the Park Roval location NorTice To VANC ITY MEMBERS. would remain in the Eaton’s fold even if it’s not doing well currently, he said. “My guess would be that store will stay because that is the kind of market they will want to be in,” Sheppard said, adding he believes Eaton’s is for sae and will likely go to an American buyer. He said thar although Eaton’s may finish the expan- sion, new owners secking a new image may not self what was originally intended when renovations were proposed.
