For the first time the West Van- couver summer school program will offer preview courses aimed at Producing better and higher marks for West Vancouver students in most academic courses, Barry Lindahl, West Vancouver summer school principal, said of- fering students preview courses during the summer is an idea that originated from Japan and other Asian countries, which have been offering the programs for the past several years. Lindahi said the program allows students to become familiar with course subjects before having to study them as part of the regular school curriculum in September. “Up until now it (summer school) has been for students who have flunked courses,” said Lin- dahl. ‘‘But in this day and age you need high marks to get into post- secondary education institutions. To get into Capilano College you need to have at least a B average.”’ Lindahl said the preview courses are designed to give students ‘‘an edge on their competition.” “We're hoping it (preview courses) will catch on. I’m hoping there will be a high demand for them. If there is no demand, then it won’t work,"’ said Lindahl.
