Short-term insurance licences available

OWNERS OF §seasonally-used
vehicles will be able to buy short-
term insurance and licences in
British Columbia starting this
month. .

This new option is chiefly
designed to assist owners of recre-
ational-type vehicles used for only
limited periods of the year,’’ said

responsible for ICBC.

Up to now, vehicle owners in
this category had to purchase in-
surance and a licence for a fuil
year, then turn in their plates and
apply for a refund when they took
their vehicle off the road. Under

insure and licence their vehicles for
periods ranging from six to 11
months.

“This seasonal insurance system
will be viewed favorably by many
smail business operators who have
lobbied for this change. In addi-
tion, many recreational vehicle
owners will now be able to insure

period over which they intend to
use them,’’ added Hanson.

The change affects a range of
recreational vehicles such as
mctorcycles, motorhomes, house
trailers, golf carts, mopeds and
snowmobiles. It will also apply to
certain seasonal resource industry
equipment such as dump trucks,

equipment, operated within a 160
km radius.

A service charge equal to two
per cent of the annual net
premium, with a minimum of $10
will be levied to cover the extra
processing cost. There will also be
a licence fee surcharge of $5 for
recreational vehicles and $10 for

earth movers and road building industrial.
