Out of 50 sample premiums ob-
tained from Toronto, Montreal,
Edmonton, Ottawa and Halifax,
only five were less than the com-
parative premium in B.C. With
young mate principal driver
premiums, other provinces were up
to five times higher.

The comparison is based upon
quotations from five leading com-
panies who together account for
almost 20 per cent of all auto in-
surance in Canada.

Each company was asked to give
its best rate for a typical vehicle: a
1984 Chevrolet Caprice Classic
Sedan, with a three-year claim free
record, choosing $500,000 third
party liability, $250 deductible col-
lision ($200 in BC) and $50 deduc-
tible comprehensive coverage. The
