He travel C9 - Sunday, November 20, 1983 - North Shore News Se) | LA OCEAN SHORES, WASHINGTON Your next holiday needn’t be far travel-wise A FEW WEEKS ago we took the family and visited Ocean Shores, WA, for a few days. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t great but it was a pleasant break. Ocean Shores is south of Seattle - turn west off IS at Olympia towards Hoquiam and it’s right on the coast. The beach stretches for miles in both directions. It’s great for walking and horse- back rding (rentals available at $10 an hour) but isn’t much for swimming. We've visited at various times of year but even in July it is rarely warm enough to go without a wind breaker. I] was disappointed with our condo — the Polynesian — although it might have been the unit we had. Slightly shopworn! Also, the people aboved us were lead-footed and clomped around in what sounded like rugby boots all hours of the day and night. We've always stayed at the same place but next ume | think Ill check out the Grey Gull, next door. Many of the condos in Ocean Shores have fireplaces and it’s a real pleasure to light up the logs on a cold afternoon. On previous trips I'd found that the groceries were expensive so stocked up in Hoquiam. That’s no longer necessary — a big new super- market has opened up just across the street from the lit- tle shopping centre. We ate most of our meals in the condo but did try the News returns JUST LIKE the Snowbirds, Canada News has returned to the Florida sun scene for the winter. Good food with a continental flavor, reasonable prices. Our bill for dinner for two, with two cocktails and wine was under $40. One afternoon Bnan and the girls rented mopeds from Mr. ‘‘T’s’’, right across the street from the Polynesian. They cost $8 an hour but when my bedraggled family were caught in a rainstorm and returned early half of the cost was voluntarily refund- ed. The owner, (oo, let me try out one of the machines but after a jumpy tour of the parking lot 1! decided it wasn’t my hne of work. I was grateful for the car as | pass- ed my family making haste for the ‘‘barn’’ through wind and rain. *eeoeseeeae 8 et A letter from Manan God- dard who operates the Guar- dian Angels housesitting ser- vice in West Vancouver. She reminded me of her service which I’d failed to mention in a recent article on the care and feeding of pussycats while the owners are away. She also mentioned that she's changing the name of her ser- vice to Guardian House- sitting to avoid confusion with that group downtown. Phone 926-2519.
